Cristy Nayeli arrived at the Buen Provecho Program full of fears, insecurities, and a sad look on her face the day her cousin invited her to participate.
"I can't; I won't make it," were the phrases this little girl would often repeat when she faced a challenge. Furthermore, she socialized very little with other children and didn't join in on their games.
After five years of attending the Program, her conversations are profound, and it's evident how the word of God has shaped her life. She is now a very confident girl, clear about her goals and purpose despite the difficulties and adversities she faces every day.
"There is power in prayer. This year, when I started school, I didn't have any supplies or uniforms, and I only had two days at school to wear my full uniform. So I prayed to the Lord to provide it for me. After that prayer, I received a called telling me the program would take me to buy my uniform. I just said, 'Thank you, Lord, for hearing my prayer!' My mother's salary is very low and she couldn't afford to buy uniforms for my little brother and me. Thanks to that purchase, I was able to continue my classes at school. This filled my heart with joy."
Now, she is a very self-confident girl, with strong convictions, very disciplined, and organized. Her day begins very early at dawn because she must support her mother before she leaves for work in the early hours of the morning. She attends her morning classes at the Jesús Milla Selva Institute and in the afternoons she arrives at the program where she participates in the activities and diligently completes the tasks assigned to her in her classes.
On Saturdays, she takes music classes, and during the week, she practices playing the drums after arriving home from school.
"I've learned many things in the program," Nayeli says. What has impacted her most is the challenge of being a part of the community wherever she goes. "I must do the right things, even if no one is watching, because I must please God in everything."
She dreams of becoming a business administrator to get a job and support her mother and her little brother, Brayan. This girl of strong convictions has become her mother's emotional support and mentor. Without a doubt, with the Lord's help, she will achieve all her dreams.
